female Dysfunction Treatment

Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) is a broad term that encompasses the various problems that keep a woman from having the sexual response she desires. Medical factors that contribute to FSD include hormonal changes (often brought on by menopause), pelvic pain, neurological problems, medication interactions, and cardiovascular conditions.

There are four classifications of female sexual dysfunction:

  • Desire Disorders: Low Desire (hypoactive desire disorder) is the most common type of FSD. Aversion Disorder is another type of desire disorder. It is the phobic avoidance and aversion of sexual contact.
  • Arousal/Stimulation Disorders: The inability to attain or maintain sufficient sexual excitement including lack of genital swelling and lubrication
  • Orgasmic Disorders: The delay in or absence orgasm after sufficient sexual stimulation and arousal
  • Pain Disorders: Pain in the genital area associated with intercourse (dyspareunia). Spasms of the pelvic floor muscles resulting in painful penetration (vaginismus)

Female Sexual Dysfunction Testing and Treatment

If a woman is not bothered or concerned by symptoms of female sexual dysfunction then no treatment is needed.

For women who are seeking solutions to their sexual wellness concerns, there is no “one size fits all” answer. Finding effective solutions starts with a conversation with a provider who is willing to listen and is comfortable guiding a discussion about this sensitive topic.Treatments are tailored to each individual woman and often involve a multidisciplinary approach that incorporates multiple treatment methods.
